For BK Foto #2, parts of the picture database “Image” of the University of Applied Arts Vienna are reproduced as stickers using a thermal printing process. Thus, reproductions of artistic works become the content of this album. Through label printers, the curated canon of art history is translated into the language of rationalisation. The thermal method is a printing process of efficiency. Low maintenance. Fast. Error-free.
Playfully, the album takes advantage of these qualities and transcends institutionally created hierarchies. Classic categories are renegotiated without completely dissolving them. The album takes up collecting, archiving, and decentralised curating as a starting point for reinterpreting the structures that go along with them. An open system allows for free combination. Contexts postulated on the pages create new spaces for the reproduced motifs and unpredictable dialogues. A new understanding of the image emerges, expanding canonical readings. This artist book becomes an expansion of the exhibition space

Für BK Foto #2 werden mit Hilfe des Thermodruckverfahrens Auszüge der Bilddatenbank “Image” der Universität für Angewandte Kunst Wien als Aufkleber vervielfältigt.Reproduktionen künstlerischer Arbeiten werden zum Inhalt dieses Sammelalbums Albums. Etikettendrucker übersetzen den kuratierten Kanon der Kunstgeschichte in die Sprache der Rationalisierung. Der Thermodruck ist das Druckverfahren der Effizienz. Wartungsarm. Schnell. Fehlerfrei.

Pictures printed on sales receipts flow to the ground on all sides of the room. A footbridge leads across a sea of images depicting a broad spectrum of art history. The installation appears like adocumented transaction. Thermal printers translate photographs paintings, sculptures, and statements about art into the language of rationalization. Thermal printing is a printing process that stands for efficiency, low maintenance, speed, and error prevention. Attributes that are in contradiction to the artistic process.
The space develops this contradiction as an experience for the viewer. Photography as an act of appropriation feeds the sea of images. On the one hand, new connections emerge between the images, on the other hand, a seemingly endless supply.

An allen Seiten fließen auf Kassenbons gedruckte Bilder zu Boden. Ein Steg führt über ein Meer aus reproduzierten Werken der Kunstgeschichte durch die raumgreifende Installation. Sie erscheint als dokumentierte Transaktion. Durch Bondrucker werden Fotografien, Malereien, Skulpturen und Kommentare zur Kunst in die Sprache der Rationalisierung übersetzt. Der Thermodruck ist das Druckverfahren der Effizienz. Wartungsarm. Schnell. Fehlerfrei. Konträr zum künstlerischen Anliegen.

BK FOTO ist ein loses Kollektiv aus Künstler*innen, das seit 2019 besteht und in der Bildenden Kunst in verschiedenen Konstellationen in Erscheinung tritt. Eine gemeinsame Sprache entsteht durch den intensiven Austausch der Mitglieder untereinander. Dieser Prozess der Zusammenarbeit von mehr als zehn Künstler*innen an einer Arbeit, in dem die jeweilige individuelle Praxis in den Hintergrund tritt, ist herausfordernd, intensiv und führt zu künstlerischen Werken, die nur aufgrund ebendieser Bedingungen entstehen können. Raumgreifende Installationen, Plakate, Publikationen, Skulpturen und Bilder vermitteln diesen Prozess inhaltlich wie formal.
BK FOTO is a loose collective of artists that has existed since 2019 and appears in various constellations in the visual arts. A common language emerges through the intensive exchange among the members. This process of collaboration of more than ten artists on a work, in which the respective individual practice steps into the background, is challenging, intense, and leads to artistic works that can only result from these very conditions. Spacious installations, posters, publications, sculptures, and paintings convey this process in terms of content and form.
